Introduction
I have been asked to complete a review for a company that provides Software for Blackberry. The product is called Tube 2 and essentially provides users of the Blackberry hand held voice and email devices with award winning and highly acclaimed guides to the subway & metro systems of the world. There are maps available for London, New York, and Paris.
The Devices
Looking at the site, http://visualit.co.uk/Blackberry/BB.htm, it appears that the product works on all of the current Blackberry models with color screens, including:
BlackBerry Pearl™
BlackBerry 7100 Series™
BlackBerry 8700 Series™
BlackBerry 7520™
BlackBerry 7200 Series™
BlackBerry 7130 Series™
BlackBerry 8300 (Curve) Series™
BlackBerry 8800 Series™
The Software
Here are some of the features of the software:
- Calculates the quickest journeys, lists full details of the route and see the journey come alive with a superb informative map overlay.
- Select advanced journey options such as quickest journey, fewest stops, avoid lines and quickly display return journey details.
- Overlay indicates the direction of travel, the colour code of the line your travelling on, and where to make changes along your journey.
- All preferences are stored so when re-opening a map your trip options, start, and end stations are all restored.
- Quick station search.
- *New* Improved station selection / find feature.
- *New* Graphical station selection. You can now select start / end stations by clicking on the map with a cursor.
- *New* Alternative journey option.
- *New* Improved UI to allow the user to switch journey overlay on / off, and change journey options.
- *New* Live Info feature on London version, optional subscription to a live info service to get all the latest travel information on the current state of the London Underground system directly into your Blackberry’s Tube 2 application.
Summary
Overall this seems like a cool product. I have a Windows device which works as well, so the next time I am in London I may have to check this out.
