My Marathon Training - Week 3 Complete

A bunch more mileage this week including upping the Wednesday run by 1 mile. This actually felt pretty good. I was mildly sick this week with a cold but I ran through it and actually felt pretty good. My Garmin watch acted a little funny on my Sunday run so I ran a 7.5 miler instead of a 7 miler - probably good in the end but I was a little ticked after the run as I was pretty tired. Oh well. My average pace was also up for the week which is encouraging. My new shoes are feeling good too…I went a half size bigger for this pair and they are very comfy and springy, which is what I like to have.

This upcoming week I drop the mileage a bit in a transition week so I am looking forward to that!

Today was a good run but I am totally sick of running in cold and snow. It was only about -2 C today and it was raining / snowing again. I just want the snow and cold to be done with!! Anyway, I finished this week with a good 7 mile run and things feel like they are clicking again - my form feels more fluid and it is no longer a slog to get through the runs. I look forward to getting out and running again. There was a period there - I was burned out - where running was a chore and it took all my motivation to get my butt out there. No more - bring it on.

I have successfully made it through Week 1 of the training for my 2nd marathon. It was a good week and I am so glad to be getting back into it and on a consistent schedule. I even bought some new shoes since my last ones were from my last marathon and needed to be replaced. MY mileage for the week was of course pretty low as this was week 1 but that is a good thing. Do too much too quickly and we all know what happens.

Beginning Marathon Training - Run 1

It is me here, The Running Guy. I am starting a series of articles that will chronicle my training for my 2nd marathon. The race that I am registered for is the Calgary Marathon and it takes place on the July 8, 2007. Last year I ran the race and finished in approx 4 hours and 50 minutes - way beyond my goal of 4 hours and 20 minutes. This year I strive to hit 4 hours and 20 minutes or better. There will not be a tonne of verbiage in my reports as I am going to try to post the details of each of my runs. A big undertaking but it should be interesting…
