Goals are the thing that have made me into a runner. 4 months ago when I started running (July) I wrote down a goal that I was going to finish the Melissa’s Road Race 10K event. Previously, I had not been ‘into’ running. I tried to start a few times over the years but it never stuck. Reason: I never really had a goal. I new I wanted to lose some weight but never really committed to it. This simple act of writing down this goal made all the difference. Now, I write down all my goals. I have career goals, family goals, financial goals, health and wellness goals, vacation goals, and even personal ‘I want’ goals:
I then write out the tasks associated with these goals and plan my day to complete these tasks according to priority. This has actually taken a lot of stress out of my life.
I am not saying I am some sort of expert in goal planning and life planning. All I am suggesting is that goals are very powerful motivators. They help me define what ’success’ in my life is - running included.
